Summary:

• The Financial Counselor, Oncology is responsible for maintaining insurance demographics and A/R by use of telephone, internet, worklists, ATBs and appropriate letters to patients.
• Meet with every patient to discuss his/her financial responsibility based on the treatment plan and insurance benefits inclusive of both Silver Cross Hospital and the University of Chicago.
• Work closely with other staff in Billing, Collections, Customer Service, and Financial Counseling at both organizations to reduce redundancy in work and communications.
• Evaluate need for payment plans, financial assistance, and potential uncollectible accounts receivable.
• Maintain patient demographic information.
• Maintain knowledge of resources available to assist with various types of telephone inquiries (e.g. charge problems, patient billing complaints, diagnosis changes).
• Assist in developing Oncology department policies and procedures relative to Financial Counseling.
• Assist training new employees.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of registration, scheduling, patient accounts, cash collections, insurance benefit verification, or customer service experience required.
• Must have excellent guest relation skills including verbal and written skills, expert-level knowledge of third-party payer requirements, online benefit verification, health insurances, and basic medical terminology.
• Advance user experience with Microsoft Office required.
• Experience as a front-line user with Cerner Millennium Scheduling and Registration modules strongly preferred.
• HFMA Credentialed Revenue Cycle Representative preferred.

Shift Details:

• Monday-Friday, no weekends or holidays
• Flexible start times of 730a-830a

The expected pay for this position is listed below:

$19.45 - $24.32

The final pay rate offered may be more than the posted range based on several factors including but not limited to: licensure, certifications, work experience, education, knowledge, demonstrated abilities, internal equity, market data, and more.
