Founding Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: San Carlos, CA (Onsite)

Compensation: $200K – $275K base + bonus + equity

A fast-moving AI company is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a small, high-performing team building the infrastructure that powers intelligent, voice-based agents in real-world, high-stakes environments. What You’ll Be Doing

• Architect, design, and implement scalable backend services that support real-time voice-based AI interactions
• Own and improve core infrastructure components including APIs, databases, and distributed systems
• Optimize systems for performance, reliability, and maintainability under heavy load
• Collaborate closely with product, ML, and frontend teams to bring new features to life
• Proactively identify bottlenecks and propose innovative solutions to improve system performance
• Write clean, well-documented, and testable code with a focus on long-term maintainability
• Help set engineering best practices and mentor junior team members as the team scales

What You Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field at TOP Computer Science University
• 3+ year of experience in a technical role (software engineering, systems integration, or similar)
• Deep expertise in at least one backend language (Python, Go, Rust, Java, etc.)
• Strong experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), databases (SQL + NoSQL), and distributed systems
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills—you can clearly explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfortable working across both engineering and sales functions; highly collaborative and results-driven
• Fast-moving and adaptable—able to manage multiple priorities and pivot quickly as needs evolve
• Passionate about learning and eager to grow with a mission-driven team
