Job Description

Position Title: Senior Investment Tax Manager Location: Hybrid – Based in Des Moines, IA Work Arrangement: 3 days in office / 2 days remote (flexible scheduling) Compensation: $125K–$150K base, can flex Bonus: 15% annual bonus based on individual performance Relocation: Modest relocation assistance available PTO: 20 days PTO + 10 holidays (negotiable) Additional Benefits: 401(k) with match, profit sharing, strong health benefits, and community-oriented culture Position Summary: A growing financial services organization is seeking a Senior Investment Tax Manager to lead and manage the tax strategy, compliance, and reporting related to its complex investment portfolio. This role was newly created and offers the opportunity to build out a specialized investment tax function in a collaborative environment. The individual will serve as the go-to tax expert for investment operations, helping shape tax policy, resolve emerging issues, and ensure all reporting and compliance obligations are met across an evolving investment landscape. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the primary tax liaison for all investment-related activity Analyze and document tax treatment for various investment types including CLOs, partnerships, bonds, and lending instruments Manage quarterly and annual income tax provision processes (GAAP and STAT), including disclosures and deferred tax inventories Maintain investment tax basis schedules (e.g., partnerships, CLO residuals) Research and advise on tax implications of new and existing investments Review federal and state tax compliance workpapers for investment-related activity Collaborate with investment accounting and operations teams to streamline reporting and identify automation opportunities Support external audits and respond to regulatory tax notices Track international tax treaty relief and investment withholding obligations Partner cross-functionally to uphold compliance and minimize risk exposure Ideal Qualifications: ~ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field ~ CPA or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred ~8–10+ years of experience in tax, with at least 2–3 focused on investment taxation ~ Strong technical knowledge of income tax provisions, GAAP, and statutory accounting ~ Prior exposure to complex investment vehicles and tax treatment (CLOs, partnerships, etc.) ~ Knowledge of investment systems such as PAM or Clearwater is a plus ~ Experience in insurance or asset management industries is beneficial ~ Self-starter who enjoys ownership, solving complex problems, and building infrastructure from the ground up Why This Role?
